Psychiatry Continuing Certification Board Review With Board-Focused Faculty
Remember, the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology tests you on the entire breadth of your specialty, beyond what’s practical in your day-to-day. Let our knowledgeable faculty guide you through a comprehensive review that covers exactly what the Psychiatry CC Exam Blueprint dictates.
FAQs – Beat The Boards! Psychiatry Continuing Certification Board Review
Is Beat The Boards! different from other board reviews?
Yes, in three main ways:
1. Beat The Boards! board review is the most comprehensive option. More than just a Question Bank of practice questions, each course includes in-depth lectures in a familiar classroom setting presented by expert faculty. This means you get a topic-by-topic review of exactly what’s on the board exam in much greater detail than what you can get from QBank answer explanations.
2. Because the physician’s schedule is typically a hectic one, Beat The Boards! is optimized for on-the-go review. Components such as the audio-only lecture option, iOS and Andriod app for mobile review, and offline access capability, and a fully-illustrated board-mapped study guide make Beat The Boards! review easy to incorporate at any point in your daily routine.
3. The Triple Trust Guarantee not only gives you a full tuition* refund if you don’t pass the exam the first time after taking the course, but it also gives you an extra 10% AND allows you continued access until you pass, for free. This unprecedented guarantee serves to assure you of the confidence we have that Beat The Boards! content is exceptional.
*Tuition is defined as the amount you paid for your base course, and does not include optional course add-ons, such as purchase of online access extensions, and/or the live course attendance option (where available). If any promotional items, such as gift cards, are included with your purchase, the value of that promotional item will be deducted from your tuition.
Who produces Beat The Boards! Courses? Where do you get your faculty?
Beat The Boards! board review courses are produced by American Physician Institute for Advanced Professional Studies, LLC (API). API conducts dozens of courses and trains thousands of psychiatrists each year to pass their boards and stay up to date in their fields. Every single one of American Physician Institute‘s educational courses has full editorial independence, is free of pharmaceutical and industry sponsorship and is backed by an unbeatable guarantee. Because of its reputation for excellence, American Physician Institute is able to enlist many of the top faculty from the best universities, teaching hospitals and research facilities in the country to provide you with Category 1 CME educational activities.
Do you provide board review for other medical specialties?
Yes! In fact, we provide preparation for dozens of other specialty and subspecialty board exams. Check out www.AmericanPhysician.com for the full list.
Is it likely that my employer will cover my tuition?
Because all Beat The Boards! courses are approved for AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™, it is likely that your tuition will be reimbursed. You may be surprised at how many residency and fellowship training programs, group practices, and other employers pay for or reimburse you for such Category 1 educational activities. After all, it’s in everyone’s best interests to have you board certified. It really pays to ask your training director, medical director or administrator if you are eligible because some training programs and employers do pay for board exam training. And, if you work for the Federal Government, American Physician Institute is a certified business in the System for Award Management (SAM) database and can accept government checks and credit cards.
Does Beat The Boards! offer any free board review resources?
Yes! Start with our Psychiatry Board Review Blog. There are general articles featuring board prep tips, and articles on board prep that are more board-specific.

Board Exam Results and The Triple Trust Guarantee
Is Beat The Boards! Psychiatry Continuing Certification review pass-guaranteed?
Yes, all full courses are pass-guaranteed, and backed by our Triple Trust Guarantee. At any time, you can view the Triple Trust Guarantee Terms & Conditions.
What does the Triple Trust Guarantee cover?
If you purchase a course with a “Triple Trust Guarantee” and then do not pass your board exam for which the course was intended, API will issue a 100% refund of your paid tuition*, plus an additional 10%, plus free subscription renewal. The guarantee expires in the event the exam for which this course is designed is no longer offered by the certifying board.
* Tuition is defined as the amount you paid for your base course, and does not include optional course add-ons, such as purchase of online access extensions, and/or the live course attendance option (where available). If any promotional items, such as gift cards, are included with your purchase, the value of that promotional item will be deducted from your tuition.
The Triple Trust Guarantee sounds too good to be true—is it for real?
Yes, it’s completely real. Rest assured, API has always honored its guarantees and always will. The Triple Trust Guarantee is API’s way of demonstrating that it’s just as invested in your success as you are. After all, if you fail your board exam, API will pay a penalty. API will refund your course tuition in full, provide you with a bonus, and provide free subscription renewal. The guarantee ensures API doesn’t get paid for effort, only for passing results.
Does the Triple Trust Guarantee cover non-tuition course options and upgrades?
No. Course options and upgrades are non-tuition related. Therefore, these fees are not included in any guarantee-related refund payment made under the terms of the Triple Trust Guarantee.
What should I do if I don’t pass my board exam?
First, it’s important to remember that a non-passing result is not necessarily a reflection on your abilities as a psychiatrist. The way the ABPN tests you is not the same as the many ways you’re “tested” as a practicing psychiatrist. Check out this reassuring video from Dr. Jack - What To Do If You Fail Your Board Exam https://www.beattheboards.com/video-what-to-do-fail-your-board-exam/
More to the point, American Physician Institute can work with you to help you get over this professional hurdle. Give us a call!
I didn’t pass my board exam. How do I activate my course guarantee?
To activate your guarantee, you must notify American Physician of your failure to pass your board exam and submit a copy of your exam notification and scores. To be eligible for the refund portion of the guarantee you must submit your documents within 45 days of the date of your exam fail notification. To notify American Physician and submit your documents, go to your course dashboard and click on the "Guarantee" tab. Complete the form and attach your exam notification and scores. You will receive an email confirmation of receipt and someone will contact you shortly. If you need assistance with this process or your course access is expired, please contact Customer Care at 877-225-8384

Read What Your Colleagues Are Saying About Beat The Boards! Psychiatry Continuing Certification Board Review Course
"Thanks very much. I passed my exam. Your board preparation was excellent and over prepared me for it. Every question you have on the board prep course was related to the exam. It was like I was doing the practice test. I highly recommend the Beat the Boards course for everyone who wants to pass the exam in one sitting."
David Dada, MD
"Excellent courses, I passed my Psychiatry Boards, my recertification exam and also Addiction Medicine Boards with API. "The" Best course you can attend and love their CME conferences. Dr. Jack and team Thank You!!!"
Sai Ramanujam, MD, Robbinsville, NJ
"This is my 3rd time taking this course. 2004-passed initial certification exam; 2014-passed first MOC/CC exam; 2024-passed second MOC/CC exam. This course is the reason I'm board certified today. Thanks Dr. Jack."
Hetal Brahmbhatt, MD, Johnson City, TN
"These practice questions were very similar in scope and detail to the questions on the exam and were very helpful in my passing the exam."
Jon Chaffee, MD, Long Beach, CA
"I really like Beat the Boards course. I took on-line course and then LIVE in Chicago and enjoyed all!! LIVE course was very organized, friendly staff and a good hotel location. Thank you very much!"
Elionora Katz, MD, Hampton, VA
"I would highly recommend this course for anyone who is preparing for an initial certification or re-certification in general psychiatry or geriatric psychiatry. I used these courses as a study tool for both initial certification exams and did not think twice about signing up again for my re-certification. I had been dreading studying for this exam for a long time but found the process to actually be enjoyable. The lecturers, especially Dr. Jack have a way of simplifying complex topics and making them more understandable. The practice questions did a great job of tying together concepts. The explanations for each question were succinct yet inclusive. This course not only helped me to pass my dual re-certification exam, it also helped me to be a better psychiatrist for my patients. I would highly recommend this course to anyone preparing for an ABPN general or geriatric psychiatry certification or re-certification exam!"
Todd Derreberry, MD, Winston-Salem, NC
"Dr. Jack has it figured out: he tells you exactly what percentages various topics are tested, presents the material in both video and written formats and makes group study available to benefit every learning style. Earn CMEs while you study, then: PASS!"
Nancy Franzoso, MD, Boulder, CO
"I chose the Exam Track of the MOC program of the ABPN. Recovering from a serious illness, it was very difficult for me to hit the books. A friend recommended this course. I have been a subscriber of the CME program of the American Physician Institute for some years now. This program has a large pool of MCQs (over 2500) with good explanations of the answers. I found them very helpful and focused. I passed the Exam!!"
Arif Khan, MD, Frisco, TX
"Dr Jack always delivers what he promises. I have relied on his courses starting from my initial certification to MOC and for CMEs. Thank you very much!!"
Mazhar Golewale, MD, Oakbrook Terrace, IL
"I haven’t taken a board test since 2008 and I had done a lot of research to find just the right program for me. I found the lectures to be unbelievably entertaining and informative as a whole. I knew when I finished my test that I had done well. Many of the questions were very familiar to me because of the practice tests and lectures. I made an 85."
Antonowsky Coleman, MD, Birmingham, AL
"I was really pleased with this course and felt well prepared for the Psychiatry recertification exam. My percentage on the QBank was the exact percentage score I got on my test."
Tara Eyma, MD, Astoria, NY
“I'm grateful to say I passed and wanted to say thank you to you and all of the other people involved in the course! I was a bit nervous taking it because it had been so long since I'd needed to study for a standardized exam (not since my initial board recertification). I will say going through all of the lectures and the question bank made me feel as prepared as possible. I'd definitely recommend your course to anyone preparing for their board recertification exam. Thank you again.”
Tara Eyma, MD, Astoria, NY
"Only two weeks of preparation which was five days of live course, and nine days which included five business days and two weekends, when I only did online questions made the board recertification exams very easy for me to pass in 2011 and recently in 2022."
Rahat Aulakh, MD, San Ramon, CA
"My first BeatTheBoards exam prep was back in the day when we did oral exams. I had passed my written but failed the orals. After doing BeatTheBoards for that exam and passing in my next attempt,
I was sold.
Since I also am a child psychiatrist, I also did the written and oral boards with Dr. Jack and passed first attempt.
I did my addiction board prep with BeatTheBoards and passed first attempt.
I attend some of the psychopharmacology courses as well just to keep abreast with information.
My most recent exam was my recertification for Adult Psychiatry. Along with BeatTheBoards I did Board Vitals and The Kauffman course and I was super prepared. I got my results and I was 20 points above the pass mark for this exam.
BeatTheBoards is my go to exam prep course. Every time I take it, I am not only super prepared and confident but I also keep the material for reference and teaching the students who come to my unit. I cannot say enough about Dr. Jack and his team in helping me in my journey as a triple boarded psychiatrist in the USA."
Sarah Gatumu, MD, Lancaster, PA
"I started subscribing to Dr Jack’s courses to study for my MOC test in Psychiatry eleven years ago. I have since passed my MOC test twice now.
I also use the platform for CME which is a convenient way to satisfy licensure requirements, self assessments/improvement and required modules.
These courses are very structured, contain relevant and current content that is available on demand.
I would highly recommend this program to anyone wanting to pass boards and/or stay up to date in their profession."
Julia Irwin, MD, Norman, OK
"This was the first time I decided to take a board review course. I am a busy geriatric psychiatrist who does not have much free time to study for the boards. I decided to take Jack’s course “beat the boards”. I am so glad I did. I decided to take the combined adult and geriatric psychiatry boards, but to only the adult psychiatry review course. I practice geriatric psychiatry only so I was sort of out of touch with adult psychiatry. The beat the boards course made it so easy to prepare. I completed the MCQs twice, reviewed the entire content twice including the live course that was in Rosemont, IL. Followed every suggestion that Jack suggested on how to study and how to answer the questions, loved the faculty at the live course. Then took a deep breath and took my combined boards and passed with over 88% on both adult and geriatric psychiatry exams. I highly recommend this course to any colleague who is busy and does not have a lot of free time to study for maintenance of certification examinations. Thank you Dr. Jack !! See you again in 10 years for recertification exam."
Mohammad Shafi Siddiqui, MD, Chicago, IL
"This was a great course and I used it successfully to pass my initial GeroPsych boards and now my combo recertification. The lectures are easy to listen to and questions very solid and similar to the actual test. I highly recommend BeatTheBoards to my colleagues."
Zach Morairty, MD, Twin Falls, ID
"Outstanding Course. Clear concise to the point! Great review! Supportive Colleagues!"
Mercedes Martinez, MD, Chicago, IL
"This course helped me pass by focusing on topic with the most pertinent and up to date information. I only wished I had of heard of this course more than 2 weeks before the exam!"
Violet Henighan, DO, Philadelphia, PA
"Beat the Boards! was the perfect program to study for the ABPN Psychiatry MOC exam. The lectures were informative and easy to follow, and worked great on both my computer and my tablet. The question bank has definitely well-tailored to the MOC favorite subjects, and helped me prepare for areas I don't always see in my day to day practice. The questions also worked great on the tablet, which made it great for couch studying! I would recommend this to anyone preparing for the MOC (and I have!)!"
Gonzalo Perez-Garcia, MD, Dallas, TX
"I took recertification exam after taking board review course This course was very helpful and focused on important exam taking tips and reviewed each topic in detail. I attended live course and finished questions that helped me a lot and passed my exam in first attempt. All teaching was so effective and finished my test way early than required time no rush and still good scores. I will highly recommend this course and you don’t even need to touch book after attending course and it covers basically everything which is needed, excellent way of teaching."
Padma Lassi, MD, Sioux City, IA
"Thank you to Beat the Boards! for helping me to pass my combined MOC (adult and child and adolescent psychiatry) exam! I absolutely could not have done this on my own. The lectures offered the structure and the content review that I needed, and the question bank was very good as well. My favorite part of the question bank was being able to have the versatility of using questions (either as flash cards, or test taking mode), and selecting which areas you wanted to test yourself in. I have already recommended it to a colleague who has to take her exam next year. Thanks again!"
Kathryn Murray, MD, Torrance, CA
"The API course provided all the essential tools to pass well into the 80% percentile. I watched all of the lectures and completed the question bank. I then focused on areas I do not practice regularly, such as child psychiatry and neurology. I highly recommend the course."
David Sisemore, DO, Sacramento, CA
“This year I was due for my Board recertification for Adult Psychiatry. I also decided to take my Child and Adolescent Boards. For all three exams I took the Beat the Boards! course. I passed all three of them on the first attempt with no problems (recertification in Adult, the written for the C&A as well as the live exam). I heartily recommend the course to everybody. It shortens the time to study tremendously. I work in private practice 40-42 hours per week, I'm a single mom of two busy adolescents and Beat the Boards! made it much, much easier for me. Thank you.”
Daniela White, MD, Houston, TX
“I am writing to inform you of the good news: I passed the MOC Boards! It's no small miracle considering that at the time I took the exam I had not been practicing for 6 years (after a career detour into interior design) and was the primary caretaker of my two sons, ages 9 & 6. I was sweating bullets about the exam; your three-day course and only 1 week of studying were all I had time for, but clearly it was enough. I want to thank you for your genuine caring and commitment to the attendees of the course, and your thoughtful and informative follow-up emails after the course. My Current practice is up and running, I have the boost of confidence I needed, and I am very grateful. Thanks again, I will not hesitate to recommend your review course to colleagues.”
Scott Lauze, MD, San Francisco, CA
“My review for the Child and Adolescent and General Psychiatry actually started about 4 months prior to the exam date. I believe that the “Beat The Boards” course materials were instrumental in my preparation, and passing the Board examinations. Having taken several practice exams early in the study process, and taking others later in the process my sample/practice tests scores increased by about 20-25% after preview, which clearly made a difference in my knowledge and comfort with the examination process. Topics are covered well enough to extrapolate and make a “good educated guess” on “difficult” questions that are just “really great questions,” and so there was only a very occasional question that was unfamiliar in topic or content. I am pleased with the review in Child and General Psychiatry for the purpose of the Board Exams, and also to improve my current knowledge in psychiatry.”
Gary Rosen, MD, Boulder, CO
“The lectures were very helpful. They are in a very user-friendly format. The quizzes were especially helpful in preparing for the board exam. I did the whole course by webinar and was able to study when convenient for me. And best of all – I passed both the child/Adolescent and Adult Recertification Boards in one day, saving me time & money. It’s obvious he genuinely cares about the docs who take his course.”
Rama Thiruvengadam, MD, Kealakakua, HI
“The course was excellent. Having the videos meant I could rewind things I wasn't clear on as many times as I needed. The course covered everything required to pass the exam and a whole lot more valuable information for daily practice. I would highly recommend it to anyone, not just to pass the boards but to refresh your memory and learn some new information to improve your practice.”
Victoria Soyannwo, MD, Tucson, AZ
“Just like I did 10 years ago after your training/course and I passed my board, I passed my recertification again. Thank you for the over-preparation as the exams came easy and I completed all sections in less than 180 minutes. See you at the Child recertification. Again, thank you and your great staff.”
Olatunde Fatinikun, MD, Sylvania, OH
"I am so happy to let you know I passed my MOC-recertification exam with a very high score of 85% even though the average score for 2016 was 66%. “Passed easily. Great class. Enjoyed lectures and I would like to teach them.”
Edward Chai, MD, Armonk, NY
“The information in your course was probably overly inclusive and at a level more difficult than the exam itself. That being said, I don't think I would change anything. It served as a really good update as much as an asset for the exam itself. I am very glad I did the online version, because I was more able to focus on the information at home than I would have been in a lecture hall. I felt prepared for the exam and I did well. I had a lot of time left over---even took a nap for 15 minutes, because I went straight through the test without a break and it was tiring. I could have paced myself better. I remember thinking that there were only about 3 questions that I had NEVER heard of. I can't remember what two of them were, but one was about which personality disorder characteristically does the worst with ECT. I think I missed that one. I would definitely recommend this course to a colleague.”
Marcia Adelman, MD, Lebanon, OH
“The course was as extensive and thorough as I had hoped. It was focused on Board-relevant information that seemed to be the highlights of the talks. All staff were impressive, not only in their backgrounds, but also in their instructional and educational abilities. They seemed real in terms of their genuine interests in our success as well as knowing we all came from different backgrounds and specialties. I feel that I will leave knowing how to monopolize the next 4 weeks before I take the exam.”
Kimberly Kumer, MD, Canton, OH
“I want to thank Dr Krasuski and his team for the wonderful training they did to prepare me for the MOC boards. Alfredo Soto, MD, Lake Oswego, OR

"I attended the course of lectures in Las Vegas in January 2012. Needless to say, both the venue and the course itself were exceptional. I have been in medical practice since 1979, and in Psychiatry specifically since 1996. I was pleasantly surprised at how much new and useful information was offered during this short preparation course. Not only was it focused and targeted to help doctors refresh their knowledge and assure flawless passing of the Board exam, but also brought my knowledge base to a new level for the future years in practice. "I have already recommended this course to three psychiatrists that are Board Eligible to gain their certification. If I run across anyone needing to recertify I will do the same. It was an excellent review. Every psychiatrist should have to do it. It is silly to “grandfather” practitioners – the field is changing too fast."
James Pitts, MD, Visalia, CA
